While traveling for business these days, I look like a secondhand electronics sales person. It’s amazing the amount of gadgets one carries on a trip. Let me give you a look in my bag during my last trip to the US:

iPhone: This is my Australian phone, and I feel incom-plete when I don’t have it with me. It is so much more than a phone—the voice application is probably the least used app on this device. I turn it of the moment I board my plane in Brisbane.

Android Phone: This is my US cell phone. I wanted to check out the diference between Android and the iPhone and, I must say, I like them both, although the Android phone seems to have more glitches and the battery drains ridiculously fast.

iPad: My absolute favorite tool during conferences, seminars, and meetings. I use this for taking notes and keeping up-to-date with everything that is going on in the world. It’s so light and fts easily into my hand-bag. I also use it to read my magazines.

Kindle: Now this is my go to gadget on long inter-continental plane trips! I love to read, and I read a lot—especially when I travel. I can easily get through 3–4 books on a 10 day business trip and, in the past, I have had to book in physio and remedial massage

appointments immediately after returning home to help get rid of the aches and pains from hauling all these books around with me on my travels. I now have my kindle, which goes into my handbag (still fts even when the iPad is already in there) and it weighs next to nothing. The reading experience on the kindle is a lot better than on an iPad and it is less straining on my eyes.

Oh yes, how could I forget...I also bring my MacBook, complete with wireless mouse and headset, to do some serious work in hotel rooms and ofce environ-ments. The purpose of the headset is so that I can have phone conversations.

The apps that I use on these machines can be split up into diferent categories:

TRAVEL

To make my life on the road easier and to keep every-thing in one place, I love the TRIPIT.COM app. I email all my travel plans, airline tickets, hotel bookings, etc. to a single email address and everything is sorted by trip. No searching for pieces of paper while the cab driver waits impatiently for directions. I simply show him the address on my phone and we’re on our way. The app even emails you updates like gate changes and delays, so you never get caught out.

The other app I use on a regular basis is tripadvisor to check out where to stay or where to eat (but that’s only because Yelp doesn’t really work that well outside of the US).

The US still works with Fahrenheit, Pounds and Ounc-es, so the ‘ convert units ’ app is used very frequently to translate what that means to me...
